The Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine offers a five year residency training program leading to eligibility for certification by the American Board of Otolaryngology. Physician trainees develop competence in all aspects of modern otolaryngology as well as the communication skills necessary for the compassionate and effective care of patients from all backgrounds through supervised experiences in private and governmental hospitals.
Medical Students interested in rotating on the otolaryngology service at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine should complete a Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) application. Students interested in applying to the Otolaryngology residency program should register for the OTO-4000 - Externship in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery. Please go to the Visiting MD Students for more information.
Our department participates in The Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and National Resident Matching Program. The deadline for submitting an application every year is October 1. Minimum Step 1 Score of 230 for interview consideration. Particular research training or clinical training interests should be highlighted in the ERAS application and discussed during an invited interview.
Interview and Appointment
On November 1, 2018, we will contact all applicants to confirm receipt of application. On November 2, 2018 between 12-12:30pm (Central Time), we will contact all confirmed applicants with a decision through ERAS. All applicants must respond through ERAS and include your first and second choice of interview dates as well as any date that absolutely will not work for you. To be fair, we will schedule interviews according to the time your response is received in the ERAS/AAMC system on November 2. No phone calls or emails, please. We will interview candidates on December 7, 2018 (candidate dinner on December 6), January 8, 2019 (candidate dinner the same evening), January 9, 2019 (candidate dinner the same evening). Please do not email application updates as we have no way to manage this information outside of ERAS. We invite you to bring a hard copy of your updated CV to your interview.
Approximately 45 individuals are offered interviews for three available appointments. Resident selection is based on the application and the personal interview.
Each resident entering the program, given acceptable performance and progress, is assured a position for the duration of the program.
