James W Schroeder, Jr.

Professor of Otolaryngology (Pediatric Otolaryngology) and Medical Education

My primary interest is pediatric airway obstruction and pediatric upper airway reconstruction specifically laryngomalacia and its surgical treatment - supraglottoplasty. I am also interested in the Diagnosis and Medical and Surgical Treatment of Pediatric Dysphagia. Specifically, I am interested in how congenital and acquired airway lesions affect a child’s ability to eat and swallow. My interest also include the medical and surgical treatment of pediatric obstructive sleep apnea and sinusitis.

Urjeet Patel

Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Within the field of Otolaryngology, my area of interest and expertise is in head and neck surgery specifically for cancer. I am particularly interested in trans-oral endoscopic removal of tumors, as well as reconstructive surgery following tumor removal including free tissue transfer. I have also expanded surgical services to include trans-oral robotic surgery (TORS) at Northwestern, by which tumors can be removed through the mouth with robotic assistance.

John Maddalozzo

Alan G Micco

Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Medical Education and Neurological Surgery

I am a board certified Otolaryngologist, with subspecialty certification in Neurotology. I completed a fellowship in Otology and Neurotology, which is a subspecialty in Otolaryngology that deals with disorders and surgery of the ear and ear related skull base structures. My interests are in cochlear implants, cochlear implant research, middle ear implants, diseases of ear, skull base surgery, skull base tumors, Gamma Knife surgery, acoustic neuromas, neurofibromatosis type II, otosclerosis and facial nerve disorers.

Dana M Thompson

Professor of Otolaryngology (Pediatric Otolaryngology)

Dr. Thompson is the Division Head of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and Professor of Otolaryngology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. She completed her second fellowship in Pediatric Otolaryngology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital under the direction of Dr. Robin Cotton. She has a unique hybrid of expertise in the surgical treatment and management of airway, voice, and swallowing disorders for infants, children, and adults and is the Director of the Multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Program at Lurie Children’s Hospital. Douglas M Sidle

Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery

Dr. Sidle is the only double board certified Facial Plastic Surgeon at Northwestern. He specializes in plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck. He has a particular interest in rhinoplasty, cosmetic facial surgery, and injectable fillers and Botox. He also performs complex skin cancer reconstructions.
