Internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

A one-year Internship in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is designed to allow recent dental graduates, licensed in Illinois, a wide and intense exposure to the full scope of the field, to hospital surgical activities and to both university and private practice.

 Curriculum

Interns will participate in all phases of the surgical services, which include in-patient and out-patient management, Level 1 trauma, dentoalveolar surgery, orthognathic and reconstructive surgery, surgical pathology and implant surgery. They will function at a PGY-1 level with on-call duties and opportunities for operating room cases. The interns will also participate in the didactic programs that serve the Cook County Health Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Program. The internship year will be spent at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University hospitals (Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, as well as at the John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

 Appointments & Benefits

Housestaff appointments, stipends and support are administered by the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. Please refer to that site for information on current PGY-1 stipend and benefit information.
